Past transportation-related development projects have resulted in involuntary residential and business displacement of BIPOC communities in North and Northeast Portland, making a lasting impact on their lives. The Southwest Equity Coalition’s mission is to prevent such impact from happening in the SW Corridor with the anticipated major investment of a 12-mile Light Rail MAX extension in the region.
SWEC member organizations ae in support of any effort that promotes transportation mobility and connectivity in the SW Corridor, as one of the fastest growing areas in the Metro region. However, the Coalition demands that any planned investment in the Corridor must ensure equity and safety for all people living in the area including paved sidewalks, safe crossings and designated bike lanes.
